2022-2023 National Convention Theme: Caelum, non animum mutant qui trans mare currunt. They who rush across the sea change their sky, not their soul. -Horace, Epistles, 1.11

What is the JCL?

According to the National JCL Handbook, Junior Classical League is a youth organization that promotes the “appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.”

Why Study the Classics?

As today’s modern world dives deeper into the digital age, understanding the Classics is as important as ever. It enables students, teachers, and citizens to be more successful in any course or field they decide to embark on. For example, classical studies hold especially deep connections with literature, law, medicine, art history, architecture, and etymology.
